Get Vaccinated. That’s It. That’s the Post.

I am so tired of this narrative. I’m so tired of having pointless conversations that go nowhere about this virus. I’m concerned for the safety of my daughter and kids everywhere because of the unvaccinated idiots (I’m not even calling them people anymore) gallivanting around as if they have something to be proud of. As if their maybe high school or college degree has blessed them with some superior knowledge that the actual doctors, scientists, and epidemiologists of the world somehow missed.

Hospitals all over the country are once again packed, but this time with unvaccinated people. In some states, there isn’t a single ICU bed left. The amount of selfishness I have watched, from afar and up close, regarding this disease makes me sick to my stomach. There are family members I am no longer speaking to because true colors have been shown. The fact that they would even take a chance on infecting others is reason enough for me to be done.

Over 4.7 billion doses have been given with minimal side effects, yet they justify their “freedumb” with outlandish conspiracy theories. Have you ever seen your child on a ventilator? Because I have. It is an image that will forever be burned into my brain. Who would willingly take a chance on that happening to a child? An ignorant, self-centered fuck. That’s who.

Oh, I’m sorry — did I offend you? You have more than offended me with the blood on your hands.

I could have made this post nicer, but I’m all out of patience. And those of you who know me know I stopped sugarcoating things a long time ago.

Now let me end this rant with something different.

Today, Poppy woke up with a sore throat, so we kept her home from school. I texted her teacher, and shortly after, the school director called me. I explained what was going on — that Quinn had a sore throat earlier in the week, had been tested for COVID, and his result was negative. I told her Poppy probably caught the same thing and I wasn’t overly concerned. She agreed, but to be cautious, she asked if we would come to the school’s outdoor area for a rapid COVID test.

We did.

Poppy’s test came back negative, thankfully, but we are keeping her home until her throat feels better.

I am so impressed with her school and the systems they have put in place to keep everyone as safe as possible during these unprecedented times. The kids will continue to wear masks, which is absolutely the right decision — despite what our governor says.

I doubt this post will change the mind of an anti-vaxxer or anti-masker. But maybe Google “child on a ventilator.” Or “child with cancer and no immune system.”

If that doesn’t move you, I don’t know what will.

Maya, first things first… I am happy to hear the Poppy and Liam tested negative for covid-19. The noise from the anti-vaxers is “don’t worry, they are young and it doesn’t do anything to them” are so wrong that it isn’t funny. They use that to salve their conscious and let them sleep at night not realizing that people like them are putting our youth and immune-compromised at risk. The only thing that might change their minds is if they themselves are hospitalized and need assistance breathing. Even then, some are deniers right up until the end. I gave up long ago trying to reason with them, saying that they shouldn’t worry about themselves so much and start caring more about others… but reason can’t overcome stupidity sometimes. I just tell them if they ever want to know more about the subject without bringing opinions into it, to let me know and I will point them to the medical documents that rely on data instead of hearsay.

Secondly, I have to admit that I have missed your posts that touch on some of the most verboten of subjects. I appreciate how you are able to cut through the B.S. and give your opinion and let others think what they want.

Lastly, I hope that you and your family are doing relatively well throughout this entire ordeal. You have all gone through so much already. Piling this on top of it doesn’t seem fair… but you know better than most that life rarely is fair.

Anti vaxers are the ones complaining the most. This world is full of people who do not think and do not care……UNTIL they get it and then omg…..I have no words for ignorance…..rant over. Hope your children feel better soon!! ❤️

I so agree with you. Bank in the day we got our polio and smallpox vaccinations at school Dwight Eisenhower was the president then, Later they added chicken pox and mumps/measles/measles. After all we are all in the same boat so no one should chop a hole in the bottom.

I’m applauding from afar. Well said! I have a compromised immune system so these people refusing to be vaccinated endangers me, as well as others in my circumstance and young kids. Do they wear their seatbelt? Take meds prescribed by a doctor? Look before you cross the street? Grow up, get the damn vaccine!

I’ve followed your blog for such a long time and I have never commented but I felt in my heart I needed to today. THANK YOU for this blog post. All the things I think or feel about the anti-vax and anti-mask people is right here in your post. I had covid in November 2020. At that time, they were still so unsure about so much. I ended up unconscious on a vent for 15 days. I coded once… they got me back. They asked my family to sign a DNR because they just didn’t think I would make it. I was a 45 yr old mom with two younger sons and they weren’t sure I’d make it. Thankfully I did…. and I’m grateful for each and every day that I’ve had since because it feels like these days are a gift I was given. I’m a long hauler with a plethora of residual side effects that still effects my health. I don’t know if I’ll ever be “ok” again. Almost a year out from diagnosis and I’m still short of breath and have heart issues and hair loss. This is my new normal. But still…. I’m grateful. So when people don’t believe in COVID or Vax or masks….. I get super stabby and, like you, have zero fucking patience for their ignorance. So from a mom who nearly lost her life, thank you for this post. I wish more people understood what happens WITHOUT having to experience it themselves.

    Amen!
And hats off to you for your honesty.
I know it’s only a glimpse into your world with the loss you suffered, but as a now retired critic care pediatric nurse, its heartbreaking to watch a kid sick.
And it’s horrifying to me that ANYONE would be so callus ~ to not care about their fellow humans~
I wash my hands after handing raw chicken, I wear a seat belt, I wear shoes into public places…not because, as the damn COVID deniers say “I’m living in fear” or “controlled by government” BUT because ITS THE F’ing RIGHT THING TO DO for safety.

Keep fighting the non-sugar coated goof fight. Rail against willfully ignorant narcissists like Dougie Douchebag. We face the same ignorant narcissism here in Canada every day and need allies in the “jabber” wars. Double-jabbed in Alberta, Canada.
